Reviews

AudioFile Magazine...
[Editor's Note: The following is a combined review with AGAINST THE BROTHERHOOD and SHERLOCK'S SECRET LIFE.] -- Some audio Sherlockiana for fans of the old detective: AGAINST THE BROTHERHOOD is an epistolary pastiche in which Holmes's older brother, Mycroft, figures as main character. More gothic than the Conan Doyle stories, the novel is narrated in an appropriately Victorian style by Simon Prebble. Another pastiche, SHERLOCK'S SECRET LIFE is a buoyant, humorous romance involving Holmes and a lovely amnesiac. The play has been rather awkwardly adapted for audio, with actors still projecting to the balcony and a decrepit-sounding Karl Malden describing the action. David Timson beautifully reads the four canonical stories in Naxos's ADVENTURES. Y.R. (c) AudioFile 2000, Portland, Maine

CD Now...
“The third volume of Naxos' unabridged traversal of the most famous collection of Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories once again mixes a few of the more substantial tales with some shorter and more obscure or whimsical ones. David Timson reads with a proper British accent utterly apt to narrator Dr. Watson, changing his voice effectively when other characters speak. His timing is always finely wrought, neither rushed nor ponderous and quite natural for the speaking characters, who are nicely delineated from the narrative. Anyone with the time to invest in hearing these stories delivered dramatically rather than simply reading them will find Timson's performance quite satisfying.”

Sacramento News & Review...
“Read by David Timson, a British actor with a masterfully changeable voice and boosted by classical incidental music, making for a thrilling rendition.”
